Where I Began
When I moved from Hong Kong to the United States in the 2nd grade, I barely spoke English. I struggled with ADD and dyslexia. I spent time in Special Education and often ate lunch alone, feeling lost in a new culture.
Then one day, my cousin brought over a stack of comics.
The smell of the fresh pages, the vibrant art, the incredible worlds trapped between those covers. Something clicked. I didn’t realize it then, but that moment changed everything.
Comics became my bridge. I learned to read and speak English through them. I found belonging at local comic shops: Monster Cellar, Geoffrey’s Comics, and Wall to Wall. I turned into that annoying kid who showed up every single day after school. Eventually, the owner gave me my first job.
I read everything I could get my hands on. I helped a struggling new entrepreneur keep the lights on. And for customers, I became a walking, talking preview guide who was excitedly telling them what was coming next.
Where 247 Comics Began
Fast forward to 2020.
My world had shrunk to the ceiling above a hospital bed as I fought COVID-19 in isolation. At that point, I had spent fifteen years as a talent manager fighting for artists, followed by work in independent film production.
Lying there, day after day, my mind kept returning to comics. Not just the stories, but the people who make them and how limited their options often felt.
I wasn’t trying to start a traditional publishing company. I was looking for a third path. Something better than the classic work-for-hire grind or going completely alone with self-publishing.
That search, born in a hospital room, became 247 Comics.
Comics saved my life.
Now we’re working to help save — and elevate — the dreams of other creators.
